Dancing at the party

This past weekend, 73 family and friends gathered to celebrate Mr. Boomerlifetoday’s 60th birthday! The party took months of planning – securing a venue and deciding on a decorative theme/finding decorations, designing/sending invitations,  choosing the caterer and the menu, finding a florist and finalizing floral selections, choosing the birthday cake and its decoration, selecting a drinks supplier and deciding on the variety of spirits, wines and beers to offer, compiling playlists, arranging live entertainment and developing a “This is your life” slide presentation.  It all came together thanks to help from work colleagues, Mr. Boomerlifetoday, the Internet, local businesses and friends.

I’d like to thank Mr. Boomerlifetoday’s work colleagues for providing the venue, staffing the bar, compiling playlists, disc jockeying and being great guests.  Thanks to Mr. Boomerlifetoday for driving me all over Auckland to purchase decorations, for creating  playlists and developing the “This is your life” slide show.  Thanks to Rueben Simpson for seranading us – your voice is amazing!  Thanks to Platters Catering, Auckland University of Technology (AUT) for their wonderful selection of delicious finger food and Rocket Kitchen for absolutely decadent chocolate whiskey birthday cake.  Thanks also to Ellerslie Flowers who created beautiful floral arrangements and Liquorland for organizing the evening’s liquid gold. Thanks to Party Hire for securing decorations and catering equipment. Finally, thanks to Cheryl for knitting a tuxedo for our dog Bailey – he looked so cute and stole everyone’s hearts on the night!

Everyone had a great time including my father-in-law, who at 91 years of age was up dancing into the wee hours of the morning!  Guests travelled long distances to help us celebrate and we really appreciated their efforts to join us.  Those who live abroad sent cards, emails and Skyped.  It really was a very special evening and one that we will remember for years to come!

Do you have a milestone to celebrate?  How do you plan to mark the occasion?  Please share….

Until next time,
